There are secret vaults of messages hiding in your Instagram inboxes, waiting for you to discover them. Instagram hides messages it thinks you don’t like to see. The messages could be from users you know but are not connected with on the platform, or they could be from total strangers. And then there’s always the weird spams. If you hate leaving your messages unanswered, or if you want to see who’s been messaging you, finding them on Instagram is very easy. Once you’re there, you can choose whether or not you actually want to open them and respond.
Here’s a step by step guide to checking your hidden message:
- Open your Instagram and go to your direct messages. (the paper airplane icon at the top right of your feed.)
- If you have been received a message from a user you aren’t following, you will see this notification: “Message request from…” click on the notification to open the chat.
- You can read it without accepting or declining it, but to respond it, you will have to accept. Accepting a direct message lets the user to send direct message you from that point forward without getting filtered.
- If you got a message you don’t want to see, just decline it and tap on “block user” to prevent them from sending you any other messages and commenting on your posts.
