Didn’t know that Instagram has a separate app for Direct Messaging? Well, to know or not to know, don’t worry, this is not the problem! Because Instagram Direct Messaging App is shutting down now!
As always, competing with different platforms, Instagram has been able to take over Snapchat on Stories, after Snapchat initially “invented” the idea.
Back in 2017, Instagram launched a new stand-alone app for DM. But as its rival, Snapchat, had already taken the position in most countries, Instagram decided to roll the more-developed app in countries where Snapchat had not yet reached (Chile, Israel, Italy, Turkey, Uruguay, and Portugal).
Unable to compete with Snapchat’s ever-growing popularity of messaging functions among users, Now the Instagram direct messaging app has only about one million users, globally. This number is too low to encourage Instagram to dedicate more resources to the app’s further development, hence the rollback of the project.
Instagram announced that its direct messaging app was only run for the test, and after being shut down, the messages of those using this app will be imported directly in their Instagram account DM inbox.
